Nothing in a portrait is a matter of indifference. Gesture, grimace, clothing, decor even – all must combine to realize a character. --Charles Baudelaire
Pictured above is my progress so far on my self portrait. I was very nervous to start this project because I over think everything and I was intimidated by the size of the paper. I went into it having a negative energy, but to my surprise, it actually turned out looking like me! (So I think). It was a very difficult task to do, but dividing my paper into grids allowed me to truly focus and draw necessary details that I may have skimmed over if I was just looking at the whole thing. I learned a lot through the overall experience. After I traced it in Sharpie (which was scary), we began to test colors for it on a smaller sheet of paper (pictured to the right). I mixed a bunch of colors together and my result was a teal color that I really enjoyed. I like how it fits the mood of my picture. Well, now I'm left to start painting my HUGE self portrait, which will most certainly hang in my room when it's finished. I'll keep you all updated!
