Four.

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land on a star. --Brian Littrell.

This marking period  f l e w  by. In the beginning of the year, I was so  e a g e r  to begin art. And I still am. I am completely aware that I have many more  j o u r n e y s  to encounter and I am willing to embark on them. I feel like since it was such a short period of time, none of my art skill-wise has improved. But I am certainly feelings more  c o n f i d e n t   than I was the first day of school. Art allows me to  e x p r e s s   all of my feelings that are bottled up inside of me. Overall, the first marking period was a time to  r e b u i l d my skills and I am positive that now I will  f  l o u r i s h . Thanks for following my blog!

Nothing in a portrait is a matter of indifference. Gesture, grimace, clothing, decor even – all must combine to realize a character. --Charles Baudelaire

Pictured above is my progress so far on my self portrait. I was very nervous to start this project because I over think everything and I was intimidated by the size of the paper. I went into it having a negative energy, but to my surprise, it actually turned out looking like me! (So I think). It was a very difficult task to do, but dividing my paper into grids allowed me to truly focus and draw necessary details that I may have skimmed over if I was just looking at the whole thing. I learned a lot through the overall experience. After I traced it in Sharpie (which was scary), we began to test colors for it on a smaller sheet of paper (pictured to the right). I mixed a bunch of colors together and my result was a teal color that I really enjoyed. I like how it fits the mood of my picture. Well, now I'm left to start painting my HUGE self portrait, which will most certainly hang in my room when it's finished. I'll keep you all updated!

Two.
Art is a fruit that grows in man, like a fruit on a plant, or a child in its mother's womb. --Jean Arp.

One of the first things we did this marking period was draw apples and shade them with value. Even though I love shading, I must admit that I found it quite difficult and I realized my skills were a little shaky. Fortunately, when we moved along to using colored pencils, I adapted much easier, hence why I'm much more pleased with the result of the whole apple pictured on the left. I hope you enjoy!! :)
